Further Education College

Here you have some pictures that I took yesterday at the Further Education College in Plymouth. In these college there are classes of English for adult students. They come from different countries around the world, and they will probably stay in England for a long time. Yesterday they talked about leisure activities.

Butternut Squash Soup

Yesterday I ate a delicious soup, and here you have Hannah's recipe!
This is a butternut squash:

Ingredients:

1 butternut squash
4 cloves of garlic
1 teaspoon of vegetable stock
olive oil
milk (optional)

Preparation:

Remove the skin and the seeds of the butternut squash and cut it into large pieces. Take the skin off the garlic. Put it all in a large baking tray and drizzle lightly with olive oil. Then, roast it at about 200C in the oven for 40 minutes (turn it after 20 minutes).

After it is roasted, put it in a blender and add some water or milk.

Finally, put it in a saucepan and add the vegetable stock.

Enjoy it!

Dartington

This is a photo of Dartington. It is a cultural centre near Totnes, a very special place. A rich American woman bought the state some time ago, and when she died, she gave it to a charitable trust. The objective of Dartington Trust is to express a respect for the natural world, and also the promotion of all sorts of arts and creativity.

In Dartington we went to a concert of Barroque English Music. The musicians were amazing, and the sound was great!

In Dartington there are beautiful gardens. There are some old trees too. The tree that you see on the picture is in the middle of a churchyard, and people say that it is 2000 years old. Can you believe that?

Here is another picture of the gardens, I love these colours!

International lunch

Hello! Today was a special day at school, because all the students had an international lunch together. There are students from many different countries, and we all prepared something traditional to share. Some Italian students made 'tiramisu', and it was delicious! It is already finished on the picture! Some students from Saudi Arabia cooked some traditional rice and a very flavoured coffee with cardamom and saffron, it was lovely! We also ate food from Germany, France, Switzerland, Japan, Libya, Great Britain and Egypt, it was great! I made some 'pa amb tomaca', which is not very elaborate, but I think they liked it because they ate it all!

Totnes

Totnes is a beautiful little town, a very special place. The town is divided in two parts by the river Dart: the centre, and Bridge Town. Bridge Town is a residential area, and it is where my host family live. All the shops, banks, pubs, the schools and a museum are in the centre. There is a lovely main street called Fore Street. There are very nice and lively shops there, I love walking up and down the street! Here you have some pictures of Fore Street:

And here you have some pictures of signs from different shops in Totnes, can you understand them?

Host family

Hello! This is my host family in Totnes. They are a lovely family with three children. They live in a beautiful house near the centre of town. Hannah is a social worker, Jim works in an Art College. Their children's names are Alfie, Mac and Nancy. Alfie loves computer games and Mac and Nancy are little artists and they draw beautiful pictures and sing around the house.

What are your news in Berga?
